Become a Volunteer

Thank you for your interest in changing the life of a young man by becoming a mentor! Being a mentor is rewarding and is one of the most important things you can do for a child. A mentor should help a child believe in himself and increase his confidence. A mentor should provide guidance and encouragement, but also ask questions and challenge the mentee. Dedicated consistent time with a child up to 4 hours a month can make a big difference in a young person's life! Time=Influence!

SUPPORTING THE PROGRAM
Our Mentoring Programs supports young people who are trying to excel in their character. The young people are referred to our program for a variety of reasons, ranging from issues with being disrespectful to just simply wanting to be a part of a group that is involved with their community. We are always looking for dedicated individuals from the community to work with the youth as a Group Mentor.

How Much Time Is Required?

Mentors meet 2 to 4 hours a month with mentees. This provides time to develop a consistent, positive, healthy relationship. Group Mentors also meet up to 4 hours a month supporting group outings and group activities.

What Are The Requirements?

Mentors must submit an application and be at least 21 years of age. Background checks will be required to become a mentor to ensure the safety of each child. This is required to support any of the programs offered by DGC.

Each mentor is responsible for attending an orientation session reviewing the DGC handbook and signing mentor ground rules and safety guidelines prior to any activity with the children.

Each month, mentors are required to submit monthly reports to the Director documenting the one-on-one or group time and activity spent with their mentee.
